TENANTS
From 6 October 2026, if you rent from a council, registered social landlord or private landlord, your landlord may have to:
- Investigate your reports of damp or mould within 10 working days.
- Provide you with a written summary of the investigation findings withing 3 working days of the investigation concluding.
- If they find ‘substantial’ damp or mould, start any necessary repairs within 5 working days after the investigation has been completed.
This is sometimes known as ‘Awaab’s Law’.
It is important that you work with your landlord to report issues as soon as possible
